Ways to Serve

Thanks for your interest in volunteering at GCPC! In many of the areas listed below, the rhythm of service is once a month. Others occur on an as-needed basis.

Coffee Team: help us create a welcoming environment by preparing coffee and tea for Sunday mornings. Contact Christi Schroader for details. 

Greeting Team: welcome each person as they arrive for Sunday School and worship. Help guests find their way and feel at home. Contact Jodi North for details. 

Hospitality Team: help us care for the needs of our family of faith by contributing refreshments, kitchen help, or setup/cleanup time. Events include holiday celebrations, parenting panel nights, meet and greets, memorial service receptions, and more. Contact Christi Schroader for details. 

Social Events: help plan and orchestrate events like church-wide hikes, game nights, float trips on the New River, outings to Salem Red Socks games, and more. Contact Christi Schroader for details.

Nursery: care for children (infant to 3 years old) during the Sunday School or Worship hour. Background checks and training required. Contact Michelle Briggs for details. 

Children’s Sunday School: guide children ages 4-10 through God’s word. Classes are held from 9:30-10:30. Background checks and training required. Curriculum is provided. Contact Christi Schroader for details. 

Children’s Worship: lead children in a time of worship and learning (children are dismissed to Children’s Worship during the sermon portion of the service.) Background checks and training required. Curriculum is provided. Contact Kristina McClung for details. 

Summer Bible Camp: volunteer to help with rec, crafts, decorations, snacks, music, registration, and more. Held annually in mid-June at GCPC. Contact Tonia Strange for details. 

Rides Team: would you be willing to give someone a ride to or from church? Please contact Christi Schroader for details. 

Building Maintenance Team: help with occasional light repairs to furniture and the building. Please contact Nate Swistock for details.

Worship Team: serve the congregation by helping with worship. If you have musical gifts– playing an instrument or singing, please contact Stephanie Clements. 

Media Team: help the service go smoothly by running sound, power point, or the live stream feed. Contact Stephanie Clements or Phil Cumbia.

Volunteer at one of our partner organizations, like Interfaith Food Pantry (contact Dilip Nair), the Bradley Study Center (contact James Depret-Guillaume), the Valley Women’s Clinic (Pregnancy Resource Center of SW Virginia, contact Erika Rollo.)
